Independent marine surveyor matching
Marine surveys across Canada

Find the right marine surveyor for your boat in Canada

Request an independent marine surveyor in Canada for a pre-purchase, condition and valuation, insurance, damage or specialist assignment. Matching starts with the province and waterway, then seasonal launch status, haul-out access and report-recipient requirements.

Survey types

One request, matched to the actual job

A pre-purchase inspection is not the same assignment as a tonnage measurement or commercial-code survey. We keep the scope clear from the beginning.

How it works

A practical route from request to inspection

The platform helps structure the enquiry and introduce suitable professionals. The selected surveyor remains responsible for agreeing scope, fee and terms with you.

1

Tell us about the yacht

Share the vessel, survey purpose, location, timing and any buyer or registry deadline.

2

We review the scope

We check geography, material, size, specialist needs and whether formal acceptance matters.

3

Receive a suitable introduction

Where available, we connect you with a surveyor whose stated capability fits the assignment.

4

Appoint independently

You compare the scope and terms, resolve conflicts and instruct the professional directly.

Important distinction

Professional membership is not automatic flag approval

For pre-purchase and condition work, competence, experience, insurance and independence are central. For tonnage, registration, coding or statutory work, the flag or accepting organisation may also require a specific appointment.

Canadian survey locations

Match the survey plan to Canada’s coast, lakes and boating season

Canadian survey logistics differ between the Pacific, Great Lakes, St Lawrence and Atlantic regions. Winter storage, shrink-wrap, launch dates and yard access can limit which systems are available for inspection.

British Columbia

Vancouver · Victoria · Nanaimo · Sidney · Vancouver Island

A major Pacific yacht market with island and mainland travel. Confirm haul-out, ferry travel and experience with the vessel material and operating area.

Find a surveyor in this region

Ontario & the Great Lakes

Toronto · Hamilton · Georgian Bay · Kingston · Ottawa

Winter lay-up and a compressed launch season affect in-water testing. State whether the vessel is stored, commissioned or available for sea trial.

Find a surveyor in this region

Quebec & the St Lawrence

Montréal · Québec City · Sorel · Lévis

Confirm report language, exact river or marina location, seasonal access and whether a bilingual report is required.

Find a surveyor in this region

Atlantic Canada

Halifax · Lunenburg · Saint John · Charlottetown · St John’s

Provinces and islands create long travel corridors. Confirm local lift capability and any travel or accommodation before fixing the date.

Find a surveyor in this region

Prairies & inland waters

Manitoba · Saskatchewan · Alberta inland lakes

Smaller and dispersed markets require precise location, trailer or lift arrangements and confirmation that the full scope is practical.

Frequently asked questions

Before you appoint a marine surveyor

What information is needed for a Canadian marine survey quote?

Provide the province, exact marina or storage yard, vessel details, construction, purpose and preferred date. State whether the boat is launched, winterised or shrink-wrapped and whether lift and sea trial can be arranged.

Can a boat be surveyed during Canadian winter storage?

A condition inspection may be possible, but shrink-wrap, winterisation, ice and disconnected systems can limit access and testing. Agree what can be inspected and whether an in-water follow-up is needed.

Can I request an English or French report?

Include the required language in the enquiry, especially in Quebec. Agree terminology, intended recipient, reliance rights and delivery deadline directly with the surveyor.

Are haul-out and machinery diagnostics included?

Only if included in the written scope. Yard charges, lift, wash, sea trial, engine diagnostics, oil analysis and rig inspection are often separate.

Does association membership guarantee insurer acceptance?

No. Membership can help assess professional standing, but the insurer or lender may impose its own scope, report-age and credential requirements.

Who appoints the marine surveyor?

The client appoints the selected surveyor directly after agreeing scope, fee, timing and terms. Canada Marine Survey provides information and introductions only.

Can you help with other specialist marine survey assignments?

Potential assignments include winter storage & recommissioning checks, new-build & refit supervision, corrosion, ultrasound & moisture, engine diagnostics & oil analysis, rig & mast inspections, damage & forensic investigation, commercial small-vessel assignments, on-hire, off-hire & handover. Availability depends on the location, vessel and required specialist capability or formal appointment.
